It was a crazy weekend for BMW at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as the Bavarian manufacturer auctioned the one-off i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition for a staggering $825,000 but also delivered the first i8 vehicles to some very important customers in the United States. Still, that wasn’t all as the BMW also brought the M5 “30 Jahre M5” or the special edition of the M5 that celebrates its 30th anniversary.
The new edition will see a limited run of 300 units but only 30 will arrive stateside. Each will be powered by the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 600 hp (441 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.
The M5 “30 Jahre M5” is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited at 155 mph or 250 km/h or at 305 km/h (189 mph) with the optional M Driver’s Package.
The M5 “30 Jahre M5” comes as standard with the Competition Package which includes a 10 mm drop in ride height, the Active M Differential, steering with M-specific Servotronic function as well as the M Dynamic Mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control).
In addition, each M5 30th Anniversary Edition will include a BMW Individual Frozen Dark Silver metallic paint, gills with “30 Jahre M5” badge on the front wing and a black chrome finish for the door handle inserts and twin exhaust tailpipes.
Furthermore, the vehicle rides on 20-inch bi-colour M light-alloy wheels fitted with high-performance tires. Inside, there is a “30 Jahre M5” badge embroidered on all four headrests, “30 Jahre M5” lettering on the front door sills as well as a plaque with “1/300” inscription.
The interior also features Alcantara Anthracite trim on the centre console and door panels as well as M multifunction seats wrapped in Alcantara/leather combination.
As an option, BMW offers the Harman Kardon sound system with an output of 600 watts or a 1,200 watts Bang & Olufsen high-end surround-sound system. In the United States, the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” is priced from $138,275 (including destination and handling).
