The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded 2015 Top Safety Pick accolade to all seven 2015 Subaru models, including the Legacy, Outback, Forester, BRZ, WRX/STI, Impreza and XV Crosstrek. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Subaru has all of its models gaining the award from IIHS.
Five of those models, were also awarded by the IIHS with the 2015 Top Safety Pick+ accolade -- Subaru Forester, Legacy, Outback, Impreza, and XV Crosstrek, when equipped with optional EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. These vehicles also earned the highest possible rating of “Superior” for front crash prevention.
These models likewise earned 6 of 6 points for front crash prevention when equipped with EyeSight. This technology includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning and was first system to use stereo camera technology to detect objects like vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.
Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer at Subaru of America, Inc., remarked that safety is “a long-time hallmark” of the Subaru brand, adding that the carmaker is proud to have the IIHS 2015 Top Safety Pick endorsement for every vehicle in its lineup.
The 2015 Top Safety Pick is only awarded to vehicles that scored “Good” in all four tests of high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts.
Likewise, these vehicles should also score “Good” or “Acceptable” in a small overlap front test. The highest accolade, the 2015 Top Safety Pick+, is only awarded to those who received “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention. [source: Subaru]
