Marek Reichman, Aston Martin's Design Director, will take part in Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain, driving a Vantage GT4 race car. Reichman, a known motorsport enthusiast, is a regular competitor in historic club racing.
Sharing driving duties with Reichman at the race is Chris Porritt, Aston Martin’s Engineering Manager. Porritt is an experienced GT4 driver on the 90-minute category of the race. The Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain -- a one-make series created for owners of the Vantage GT4 and the Vantage N24 – takes place at the Oulton Park Circuit in Cheshire, England on August 21.
It gives owners of Aston Martin racing cars an opportunity to compete on a level playing field with the full support of the factory. The races are between 90 and 150 minutes in length, and drivers have to deal with practice, qualifying and the race in the same day.
As for their car, the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 is a production-based race car that is eligible to take part in FIA GT4 competitions and in other series around the world. To date, Vantage GT4 boasts of class victories in the Dubai, Nürburgring and Spa 24 Hours, the Nürburgring VLN endurance series and four wins – out of six races -- in the FIA GT4 European Cup.
According to Reichman, Aston Martin’s design team has been involved in the design of the carmaker’s race cars, including the works LMP1 prototype and the Vantage GT4. He noted that by taking part in the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge, he has now become more deeply involved, this time as a driver.
Porritt noted that while most of his GT4 experience with Aston Martin has been at the Nürburgring in Germany, he considers Oulton Park as his home track, having raced his own cars at the circuit several times, although none of them were in an Aston Martin.
He quipped that so far, the standard of racing in the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain has been extremely high, which means that he and Reichmann need to do more to keep up with the front runners. David King, Aston Martin's Head of Motorsport, remarked that the Vantage N24/GT4 has been an outstanding performer in GT4 and other classes since 2006.
He added that no matter the type of race is, the Aston Martin Vantage N24/GT4 has been able to deliver class wins and podiums thanks to its performance, reliability and ease of handling.
King quipped that the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain aims to serve as a focal point for customers to enter the world of GT4 racing by holding events on challenging race circuits as backed by Aston Martin Racing.
