Audi A1 named the top ‘Sensible car’ in the compact category

Article by Christian A., on February 7, 2011

The Audi A1 has been named the top “Sensible car” in the compact category, as voted by readers of Germany’s Guter Rat consumer magazine and SUPERillu magazine.

The magazine editors think that the reason why readers favored the vehicle is because it offers the safety and comfort of larger automobile classes in a space of less than four meters (13.12 feet). The Audi A1 was introduced to the market in August 2010, kicking off Audi’s new class of vehicles.

With measurements of 3,954 millimeters (12.97 feet) long, 1,740 millimeters (5.71 feet) wide and only 1,417 millimeters (4.65 feet) high, the A1 is a modern city car but it is also a sporty all-purpose car for active everyday living.

The A1 is considered to be the first premium car in the subcompact class as it set new standards and features progressive design, uncompromising quality and revolutionary efficiency. Over four million readers participated in the voting for the most “sensible car.”

This category only considered cars that were introduced in 2010. The A1 won out over eight other newcomers in the compact segment. The prize is scheduled to be presented by the editor-in-chief of Guter Rat, Werner Zedler, to Dr. Hans-Peter Kleebinder, Head of Marketing for Germany at AUDI AG, in the Meilenwerk facilities in Berlin.

The new Audi A1 targets young customers who are residing in major cities and are seeking a vehicle that would serve them well in an urban setting. With its compact dimensions, the new Audi A1 offers a level of agility and nimbleness suited to city traffic as well as excellent everyday utility. It features a design that is not only distinct but is also modern.

It has a number of styling cues that make its undeniably a member of the Audi family: the front end with the familiar single-frame grille and the distinctive roof arch as well as the coupe-like C-pillars and the large wheel wells.

Other undeniable design details of the new Audi A1 include a hood and rear hatch that embraces the body and the 3D tail lights. Inside, the new Audi A1 offers a high quality interior that is not only comfortably luxurious but is also sporty. Despite its compact dimensions, the Audi A1 offers a roomy cabin filled with superbly designed details and features. For instance, its instrument panel evokes the image of an airplane wing, especially with its four round air nozzles indicative of jet turbines.

Moreover, the accommodating interior of the new Audi A1 features neat ergonomics as complemented by immaculate high fit and finish that is typical of any premium vehicle from Audi. In terms of advanced technologies, the new Audi A1 has an abundance of these.

One of these technologies is the infotainment system that sets new standards in the segment. The new Audi A1 could be availed in Attraction and Ambition trim lines, although customers could also opt for a media style package that places emphasis on infotainment and interior design.

Not only that, Audi also offers customers a chance to further personalize the details of their A1 to transform their vehicles into one that suits their personal tastes and preferences – using innovative materials and modern colors. Customers may opt for colored air nozzles, colored seat covers or LED interior lights.

Basically, Audi’s equipment program for the A1 offers limitless prospects to match the vehicle to the driver’s personal style. Moreover, customers may avail of different color finishes for the roof arch of their A1. Aside from all these facts, the new Audi A1 remains the sportiest car in its class, thanks to its looks, agile chassis and powerful engines.
