Audi announced today record-setting April sales as the German brand saw a 15% increase to 11,521 new vehicles sold. With these numbers, April becomes the 16th consecutive month of record sales in the U.S. According to Audi, sales of premium category vehicles such as the A8, A7, A6 and Q7 saw a 52% increase and represent 31.2% of total April sales.
The most successful model was the Audi A6, which saw a 136.8% increase compared to April 2011. The Audi A7 sales increased 91.2%, compared to initial launch sales set in April 2011. The Q5 sales increased 24.5% compared to April 2011, while the Q7 saw a 12.3% boost in sales compared to April 2011.
Unfortunately, Audi didn’t see an increased in April Certified Pre-Owned sales due to the reduced availability of models to sell. “Audi’s progressive luxury positioning in the market clearly speaks to discerning consumers as they are seeking out the most technologically advanced vehicles in the market,” said Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen. “This is the fundamental reason why Audi has set record sales in sixteen consecutive months and will continue to register steady and sustainable sales improvements.”
By coming out with the Audi A7 Sportback, Audi is telling the world that it will be entering a new segment in the market. Indeed, this five-door model is fitted with pioneering technology, displaying that sporty character and showing a design packed with emotions. With a rear section that highlights its dynamism, the new A7 Sportback is able to combine the best of not just two, but three worlds.
It has the practicality present in a station wagon, the comfort offered by a sedan, and the sporty elegance that is seen in a coupe. In terms of technology, the A7 Sportback has a lot going for it as it is truly high-tech. Its chassis for example is not only athletic but brings with it new solutions like electromechanical power steering.
On the inside, the different infotainment and assistance systems equipped reveals the innovative power that many have long expected from the brand. This latest offering also benefitted from the use of aluminum for different components resulting in the body being lightweight. Powering the A7 Sportback is a choice of four V6 engines, all of which not only have the power refined but reveals pioneering efficiency.
Take the 3.0-liter TDI engine for example. Power is measured at 204 hp (150 kW) with CO2 emissions at 223.70 g/mile (139 g/km). The new model though is not simply about performance and having sporty qualities, it is also about offering high levels of comfort even when going on long journeys.
While the interior does have that elegance given the level of workmanship done by the craftsman, the noise level on the inside is low even if it is going at a faster speed on the road. This is possible even if the engine itself gives out that refined sound as if to prove the power it can deliver. The excellent quiet experienced inside is enhanced further by the superior vibrational comfort.
Making this possible was the careful tuning of all the model’s components as well as the systematic hydraulic damping not just of the drivetrain bearing but even for the axle. Helping as well is the stiff body, which as mentioned previously, is made up mainly of aluminum added in with some high-tech steels. This resulted in the body being light yet safe.
On the rear section, there is a large hatch which when opened shows a luggage compartment that is large, easy to load, and highly usable. Minimum capacity of the compartment is 535 liters (18.89 cu. ft.) though this can increase to as high as 1,390 liters (49.09 cu. ft.) if the backrests of the seats in the rear are folded down.
