Audi announces standard HD radio technology on 2011 A6, A8 and Q7 models

Audi of America today revealed that a selection of its 2011 models will now have as a standard feature the HD Radio Technology. This is in line with the brand’s move to provide the latest when it comes to advanced data services, digitally enhanced radio and extra programing.

It will be standard on these models: the A6, A7, and A8. However it will also be available with the A4, A5, and Q5 models through an optional navigation radio. All of the models mentioned will be available by the fall of 2010 at authorized Audi dealers across the U.S.

Filip Brabec, who is General Manager for Product Planning at Audi of America, shares that the company remains dedicated in enhancing the driving experience of their customers and offering entertainment options is a part of it.

Brabec adds that it was clear the brand was going to offer its customers the HD Radio Technology considering that its 2011 models have been outfitted with the best when it comes to digital broadcast engineering. Chief Operating Officer of iBiquity Digital Corporation Jeff Jury meanwhile says that while Audi continues to be the leader in engineering, it continues to set new standards by having the HD Radio Technology.

Jury adds that this is part of Audi’s goal to define the luxury car market with its focus on giving high-quality innovation to the drivers. iBiquity Digital is the company responsible for the development of the HD digital Radio Technology for data broadcasting and FM and AM radio.

Jury exclaims that they are not only happy to be partner with Audi but also that they are able to provide Audi customers with crystal-clear sound, advanced data services, and extra programming. Around 85% of America has the HD Radio Technology.

It has more than 2,000 on the air HD Radio stations and more than 1,100 HD2/HD3 Channels with FM multicast. This technology provides new programming for the HD2/HD3 Channels plus FM-stereo quality sound for the AM and CD-quality sound for the FM.
