Audi has announced the engineering-based pilot program of the battery-electric A3 e-tron at TED2012 in Long Beach, California, to define a progressive e-mobility driver experience for those who buy luxury vehicles. The pilot program establishes Audi's first stage into the broadening U.S. electric automobile scenario, which is a key component of the discussion anticipated at the Audi Social Space at TED2012.
Audi plans to ignite a progressive dialogue at TED2012 regarding the future role of transportation in the increasingly congested urban areas in the world. The Audi Social Space will show a variety of viewpoints regarding the topic on touch-screen video installations, enabling the attendees of the event to pose new mobility circumstances for future megacities and provide insights in real time to the live Twitter feed of Audi through the #AudiTED hashtag.
Serving as a backdrop for the interactive Social Space are elements of Audi's balanced mobility initiatives, which will also spark discussions on future urban mobility and on the ways to achieve carbon dioxide neutrality across the mobility chain. These initiatives include the lightweight A2 concept EV featuring innovations specifically made for the future megacities in the world, the futuristic cityscapes designed by partner architects of the Audi Urban Future Initiative and the Audi e-gas project utilizing offshore wind turbines to produce clean power for the production of hydrogen, methane and electricity.
The e-tron name indicates that a hi-tech electrified power train with a plug-in capability is utilized. As e-tron's core philosophy, engineers at Audi are studying e-tron power concepts made to suit various driving needs and automobile types including plug-in hybrid (PHEV), extended range electric (EREV) and full battery-electric (BEV) variants.
The aim is to obtain the perfect product for the market at the right time -- the most ideal solution for the individual needs of Audi customers. Audi e-tron is the recent addition to the automaker's range of innovations, which includes the company's ultra lightweight construction, navigation and infotainment, signature quattro all-wheel drive and TDI clean diesel.
