Audi refreshed the A5 model series for its 2012 model year, making the lineup more distinctive. The Sportback, Coupé, Cabriolet and S5 models were installed with advanced technologies. The engine, quattro drive and infotainment were made sportier, more efficient, and smarter.
The design, which was given an update, played up the technical improvements in these models. Audi redesigned the rear lights and the headlights. These models can come with xenon plus technology with homogenous LED daytime running lights as options. The interior was available with new colors and materials.
This modified engine lineup, which consists of each of the four TDI diesel and three TFSI gasoline units, came with forced induction and direct fuel injection. The new 1.8 TFSI was offered with several innovations. On average, fuel consumption was cut by 11%. All the engine-transmission configurations came with start-stop system and the recuperation system as standard.
Every engine was lined up to its ideal drivetrain whether it’s the six-speed manual, multitronic, seven-speed S tronic, front-wheel drive or quattro drive. The quattro drivetrain, when combined with S tronic, uses the crown-gear center differential and torque vectoring.
The sport differential is the ideal partner. The chassis received some fine tuning. These vehicles were made more pleasant to drive due to the optional Audi drive select system and dynamic steering. Back then, the electromechanical power steering was a new addition to the Audi A5 lineup.
Audi also gave the top models in the series - the S5 as Sportback, Coupé and Cabriolet – some refreshing. All of the S5 models, which include the Coupé, were equipped with the 3.0 TFSI that could generate 245 kW (333 hp). The supercharged V6 uses up 20% less fuel per 100 kilometers compared to the 4.2-liter V8 it replaced in the Coupé.
The performance stayed impressive even when it had an average fuel consumption of only 8.1 liters (29.04 US mpg). The S5 Coupé was capable of sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in only 4.9 seconds. It could only go as fast as its electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).
The refreshed models were given visual cues that consist of new lights, improved body details and new crystal-effect paint finishes. The interior also got subtle modifications. The most significant technical modifications for the Audi S5 are quattro drive with the crown-gear center differential and electromechanical power steering. It also came with the special S sport suspension and the standard 18-inch wheels.
