Audi has recently unveiled quite a few teaser sketches of its more significant future models just as it did last July with its forthcoming R8 Spider convertible. The depictions show fresh details about the future A5 Sportback variant which will be available next year together with the all-new 2010 A7 four-door coupe and the next generation 2011 A8 saloon lead vehicle.
The model of these future vehicles which are nearest production is the A5 Cabrio, which will be designed so close to the Coupe but will include an automatic folding soft-roof.
More fascinating is the A5 Sportback, which the teasers show looks more like a low standing sedan than a conventional Sportback hatch. These models will highlight the same powertrain series as the A5 Coupe and will join in the performance S segment and possibly as RS versions also.
Closely following behind is the A7 four-door coupe, which will be made available later next year as a 2010 model. The unique features include very short overhangs, suggestive of the TT Coupe, also drastically narrowed down headlights, and a straight roofline that slopes down and merge directly into the rear hatch. The A7 series will begin with a 204 hp 2.8-liter model, then by a 300 hp 3.0-liter supercharged variant, and lastly, a top of the line 394 hp 4.2 liter V8 model.
The next-generation D4 A8 which is scheduled for late 2010 is the last of these sketched models to be reviewed. The sole photo of the lead saloon show a single-frame grille architecture, a low level roof, and a very aggressive appearance in contrast to the conservative D3 model presently on sale.
The new engine series will highlight a 250 hp 3.0-liter V6 TDI, a 290 hp 3.0-liter V6 FSI, a 340hp 4.2-liter V8 TDI, a 372 hp 4.2-liter V8 FSI and, lastly, a 620 hp 5.0-liter V10 FSI set aside specifically for the S8. Other Audi models currently in the works include the A1 minicar, R8 Spider and V10-powered RS R8, all of which are supposed to receive sticker prices next year.
