Audi is bringing more smiles to its luxury car fans in the United States, particularly to those planning to acquire their first premium vehicle. It isn’t only that Audi is known for sometimes offering less expensive cars than main rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury group is also planning to launch not just one but five new vehicles in the US.
Audi has already leaked plans to launch the A3 sedan four-door ($29,900 MSRP) and is launching four new cars in the next 16 months. Yes, the carmaker is planning to bring to the US the complete A3 family, including the cabriolet, TDI clean diesel, S3 and A3 e-tron PHEV.
The S3 is basically a performance version of the A3 while the A3 TDI is an A3 saloon fitted with a Golf engine. The Audi e-tron is basically a plugin hybrid – it is just the way the carmaker wants to call it.
The e-tron is a hatchback powered by a 150PS 1.4-liter turbo and an electric motor – bringing the total output to 205 hp. While the e-tron boasts of the power of a 2-liter TFSI, it only consumes 1.5 liter of fuel per 100km (European cycle) or 157 miles per gallon (US).
