Audi Tradition to honor Bernd Rosemeyer at the Goodwood Revival

Article by Christian Andrei, on September 12, 2012

Audi Tradition will be honoring racing legend Bernd Rosemeyer at the Goodwood Revival by displaying four Auto Union Silver Arrow cars on its stand on September 14 to 16. Audi Tradition is the heritage division of Audi. This means that famous drivers will be showing off the outstanding technology of these legendary racing cars in the next three days.

The demo runs will be managed by Formula 1 legend Jacky Ickx, five-time Le Mans winner Frank Biela and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. It’s also at this famed event that the recently acquired Auto Union Type D Dual Compressor will officially debut. It was 75 years ago that the great Auto Union driver had won his last Grand Prix in England in October 1937.

But Rosemeyer attempted to break a record and got killed in the process only three months later. Audi Tradition is commemorating his success in the very first British Grand Prix by holding a parade of Silver Arrow cars at the Goodwood Revival. Goodwood, which is one of the most prominent classic motorsport events in the world, will serve as the host to the introduction of the Auto Union models beside their Mercedes-Benz rivals from the 1930s.

Expect to see 10 Silver Arrow cars at the event. Audi tradition will also be presenting a privately owned replica of an Auto Union Type A from 1934. On each of the days during the event, Audi Tradition will conduct a demo run of replicas of the Auto Union Type C (1936) and of an Auto Union Type D Dual Compressor (1939).

Visitors will also get to see the well-known “Karassik models” that are built using mostly original parts. These are the Auto Union Type D (1938) and Audi Tradition’s newly acquired Auto Union Type D Dual Compressor from 1939. Ever since these two vehicles got a restoration in the in the early 1990s, this is the only time that they will be seen beside each other. We have Paul Karassik to thank for making this possible. He went to the former USSR to track down these parts.
