General Motors is set to present the 630, the first product in the Baojun lineup, at the Shanghai Auto Show. The 630 was designed and built by the Americans but it has Chinese parts. GM will show off its first sedan in this new brand at the auto show for the first time. Kevin Wale, president and managing director of the GM China Group, said that GM is “proud” to present its latest brand to the Chinese market. He said that the Baojun 630 is GM’s response to the rising demand in China for affordable personal transportation.

The new sedan will be sold locally, powered by a 1.5l DOHC engine, capable of delivering108 hp at 5,800 rpm and maximum torque of 146 Nm at 4,200 rpm. The 630 will use up 6.9 liters to run 100 km, making it score low when it comes to fuel efficiency.

The 630 is regarded as one of the safest cars made by a local brand. It features high-strength steel, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, three-point seat belts with early warning restraints, reverse drive radar, child safety seat fasteners and safety locks.

It features extras like headlights that instantly turn off. Pricing information isn’t available yet but there are speculations that the 630 won’t be cheap. Previous rumors have said that the 630 will be sold at about $7,000.

GM China Group President and Managing Director Kevin Wale said that General Motors is proud to introduce its latest brand in China. The Baojun 630 is designed to meet the growing demand for affordable private transportation across the country.

The midsize Baojun 630 was built locally with the use of GM technology. It is the first model of SGMW’s latest Baojun brand of vehicles that will be offered all over the country. The Baojun 630 will be available soon after the Shanghai auto show ends.

The Baojun 630 combines global design elements to meet the demand of Chinese customers together with “user-friendly” equipment and style corresponding to local preferences. This results to a product that delivers worldwide quality, excellent safety, dynamic styling, power and control, adaptable interior and segment-leading fuel economy.

SGMW took advantage of GM’s global expertise in manufacturing, engineering and several other areas. Quality control, product development, distribution channel growth plus sourcing of components and parts were all accomplished in line with GM’s international standards.

The Baojun 630 has a sporty look. Its front face with its dual-wing design and the smooth, flowing lines on the sides contributes to the dynamic presence of the sedan. The interior is spacious and adaptable, owing to the Baojun 630’s segment-leading wheelbase measuring 2640 mm. There are over 22 storage spaces that allow convenient storage and retrieval.

The Baojun 630 is incorporated with a “complete safety design”, which uses high-strength steel, adopts anti-locking brakes that come with brakeforce distribution, 3-point seat belts plus early warning restraints, child safety seat fasteners, safety locks and reverse drive radar. The front suspension gives more protection for both passengers and pedestrians. Headlights automatically shut off, reducing energy use as well as maintenance costs.

Baojun 630 Sedan to Make Its Global Motor Show Debut at Auto Shanghai 2011

The new Baojun 630 sedan made its national debut today at the Shanghai Equestrian Center and it will have its global motor show premiere on the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) stand at Auto Shanghai 2011.

“GM is proud to be introducing our newest brand to the people of China,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “The Baojun 630 will address the growing demand across the country for affordable personal transportation.”

The Baojun 630 is a midsize vehicle that was developed locally using GM technology. It is the first member of SGMW’s new Baojun brand of passenger vehicles that will be available nationwide. The Baojun 630 will go on sale shortly after the Shanghai auto show concludes.
The Baojun 630 infuses global design elements in response to the demand of Chinese consumers along with “user-friendly” styling and equipment in line with local preferences. The result is a product that offers global quality, dynamic styling, a fully adaptable interior, outstanding safety, power and control, and segment-leading fuel economy.

SGMW leveraged GM’s global expertise in engineering, manufacturing and many other areas. Product development, parts and components sourcing, quality control, and distribution channel development were all carried out in accordance with GM’s worldwide standards.
The Baojun 630 has a sporty presence. The front face – with its "dual-wing" design – and smooth, flowing sidelines give the sedan a dynamic presence. The interior is both roomy and adaptable thanks to the Baojun 630’s segment-leading 2,640-mm wheelbase. There are more than 22 individual storage spaces for convenient storage and retrieval.

The Baojun 630 has incorporated a “complete safety design,” with the extensive use of high-strength steel and the adoption of anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, three-point seat belts with early warning restraints, reverse drive radar, child safety seat fasteners and safety locks. The front suspension provides additional protection for passengers and pedestrians. Headlights shut off automatically, helping reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs.

Powering the Baojun 630 is a 1.5-liter DOHC engine, which generates maximum power of 81 kW/5,800 rpm and maximum torque of 146 Nm/4,200 rpm. It has fuel consumption of 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers. As a result, the Baojun 630 meets all local emission standards as well as the advanced Euro IV standard. The engine is mounted on a specially adjusted chassis, ensuring full-power control and the ability to adapt to a variety of road conditions.

SGMW has created a new distribution network that is implementing international standards for sales and service. SGMW plans to initially have 150 Baojun dealers nationwide; 299 dealers are expected to be up and running by year end.
As it prepares to begin sales of the Baojun 630, SGMW has launched a nationwide “happiness” campaign on the Internet. It is encouraging people to submit stories about how they pursued happiness in their lives. The results will be announced during the official launch ceremony for the Baojun 630.
The Baojun 630 will be manufactured at SGMW’s facility in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. To support the new brand, the government of Guangxi broke ground on a new passenger vehicle production base in Liuzhou. It will enhance SGMW’s ability to develop and produce additional Baojun models.
SGMW, a joint venture between GM China, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC) and Wuling Motors, was launched in 2002. It is based in Liuzhou, Guangxi. SGMW currently manufactures a range of Wuling brand mini-trucks and minivans as well as the Chevrolet Le Chi mini-car. In 2010, SGMW had record domestic sales of 1,226,860 vehicles. In the first three months of 2011, SGMW sold 359,038 vehicles in China.
