Beijing Auto Show: 2011 Maybach 57S and 62S

Article by Christian A., on August 29, 2010

Daimler, the owner of the luxury brand Maybach, has given its entire range a facelift. Unfortunately, it will not be developing all-new models. It was revealed that the following will receive facelifts -- the 57 and 62 standard models, including the top 57S and 62S variants. The facelifted Maybach lineup is displayed at the Beijing Auto Show.

The updates are said to be minimal but they cover both styling and performance. The Maybach 57S and 62S models had their power enhanced as its 12-cylinder engine now provides 18 more horsepower to amount to a staggering 630 horsepower.

In terms of fuel economy and carbon emissions, small improvements are seen. The lineup now has a fuel economy figure of 17.88mpg from 17.22mpg while CO2 emissions lessened from 390g/km to 368g/km. The standard 57 and 62 models continue to be equipped by a 551 horsepower unit, but there are improvements as well.

The average fuel economy fell from 18.83mpg to 17.77mpg and CO2 emissions dropped from 383g/km to 350g/km.

With regards to styling, we see that a new, enlarged chrome radiator grille was added. This item varies in appearance depending on which model you have, whether it's a standard 57 and 62 models or any of the S variants.

The range also got a redesigned bonnet, a restyled front bumper, modified door mirrors and a new rear light design. As a result of these revisions, Maybach claims that its cars are more aerodynamic since interior wind noise has been reduced.

Inside, new additions that are prominent include a 19-inch rear screen, a perfume atomiser and a wireless Internet function. The long-wheelbase models got a panoramic glass sunroof with a liquid crystal membrane that makes the glass instantly appear to be transparent or opaque with just a push of a button.
