Bentley Continental GTC bought for $14,000 on eBay, seller refuses to give it away

Article by Christian Andrei, on November 28, 2011

There’s no way that a $140,000 Bentley would sell for just $14,000 but Andre Souang won this vehicle on eBay last month for this amount. Unfortunately, he received the disappointment of his life when the managers at Bentley Scottsdale told him that the auction listing was a mistake and that the car isn’t for sale. eBay later sent a form message to say that the auction was canceled for unspecified reasons.

Any hint of an auction was removed from Souang's account and from the Website. After just a few hours of the auction on Oct. 25, it seemed like the car was never on sale.

Typically, Bentleys sell for six figures. This 2008 convertible that Souang made for a bid for was in pristine condition and had very low mileage. It also had just one prior owner. Souang said that he had a suspicion that there was something awry when the "Buy It Now" offer was accepted. He believed that the dealer would make a counteroffer instead of shutting him down.

This incident gives an idea of how vehicle auctions are handled by eBay. This only shows us how eBay takes the sellers’ side when there are disputes with consumers. EBay officials said that proper policies were followed when it canceled the auction after the dealer contacted them. Officials said that after reviewing the car price, it found that the car was mistakenly listed for a tenth of its value.

The latest iteration of the Bentley Continental GTC is out to prove it is not just a version of the first cabriolet introduced in 2006. After all, the new Bentley Continental GTC, while building on the success, of its predecessor, boasts of unprecedented improvements in several areas including styling, quality, refinement, dynamics and luxury. Compared to the first Bentley Continental GTC, the latest four-seat luxury convertible model features a sharper radii and a more imposing stance, as well as a more modern and muscular presence.

Thanks to advanced manufacturing techniques, Bentley was able to provide the Continental GTC with aluminum front wings sans any seam or weld, thereby giving the convertible the feel and look of a coach-built car. As standard, the GTC is provided with 21-inch wheels, with three styles offered as an option. Meanwhile, the hand-crafted interior of the Continental GTC has been made roomier and more luxurious, thanks to soft-touch leather hides, cool-touch metals, deep-pile carpets and an extensive range of wood veneers.

In addition, the Continental GTC is available in 17 standard soft-touch leather hide colors -- with six color split combinations – as well as in seven veneers. The interior also boasts of a quiet interior thanks to a tailored, multi-layered fabric hood, acoustic glass and under-body panels. Moreover, the cabin of the new Continental GTC has been made more practical, convenient and convertible.

In fact, aside from extra rear legroom and new storage solutions, the Continental GTC is provided with state-of-the-art elements like its touch-screen infotainment and automatic seat-belt presenters. It is also provided with a Bentley-designed Neck Warmer to make drivers more comfortable when driving while the roof is down.

Powering the new Bentley Continental GTC is a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine that is now more powerful, delivering 575PS (567bhp/423kW) of max output from 560PS, and 700Nm (516lb ft) of peak torque (plus 50Nm). This engine is paired to a new QuickShift transmission that allows for a quicker gear changes.
