Bentley hosting “Power On Ice” driving experience in 2009

An extraordinary driving experience will be hosted by Bentley in February and March 2009 complete with the Finland's remote snowscape as the background. Using the energy of 560 horses on the surface of pure ice may seem like a disagreement in terms, but in reality these two essentials form the foundation of a truly exceptional driving experience.

Bentley, the British luxury car manufacturer, is making available for its customers, and for those who may be interested, the ride of a lifetime in the northernmost part of Europe. The event is labeled 'Power on Ice' for a reason. The Bentleys in anticipation of the applicants in this driving variety will be 560-610 hp vehicles coming from the Continental range.

After undergoing a briefing from seasoned instructors the drivers will take to the road across a lake frozen solid in ice in the middle of Finland. Below freezing temperatures of as low as -30 degrees are common in the area, nevertheless they also help guarantee that the ice provides an ideal surface on which to drive. The driving conditions at this site a meager 60 km from the Arctic Circle are as unique as the program itself.

Bentley will be employing the abilities of the team surrounding Finnish rally star Juha Kankkunen. Kankkunen has gained numerous victories in his rally-driving dyas, and these include four world titles. He also set a new world record in March of 2007 for driving on a frozen bay off the coast of Finland utilizing a Bentley Continental GT.

Kankkunen take pleasure in a status similar to that of a national hero in his native Finland and there can be few others who can assert better familiarity of the burden placed on ice-road drivers at this location. In addition to the exhilarating time spent at the cockpit of a Bentley, participants will also experience first-rate service in uniquely prepared accommodation.

Approximately 800 km north of Helsinki, in the small town on Ruka, Bentley is making its own exclusive holiday village comprised of a small boutique hotel and a number of private cottages. Guests will experience all contemporary comforts, with highly trained staff close at hand around the clock. Meals will be prepared by the well-known Finnish chef Jarmi Pitkanen.

The program also highlights guided snowmobile tours and a dog-sledding expedition, with guests at liberty to try their hand at driving a team of the dogs themselves. Reservations on Bentley's 'Power on Ice' program are restricted to a number of participants as the three-day outings will be for small, tightly-knit groups only.

This is the fourth Power on Ice program of its kind and comes after successful events held in the winters of 2006 to 2008. The dates for the forthcoming program fall between February 16 and March 10 2009. The total cost of this all inclusive package runs between €7,590 ($9,890) and €8,990 ($11,715).
