Bentley, Rolls-Royce to increase the numbers of dealerships in India

Article by Christian A., on March 29, 2012

The number of millionaires in India will surge to 403,000 by 2015 from 173,000 in 2010, according to investment group CLSA Asia-Pacific. Brands Bentley and Rolls-Royce want to get in on this action by making their marketing campaigns more aggressive in targeting India’s wealthiest 0.01 percent. Bentley, a Volkswagen brand, will soon reveal plans to increase its number of dealerships in India.

It considers India to be its second most important Asian market after China, according to Amy Arora, brand director at distributor Exclusive Motors. Meanwhile, BMW’s Rolls-Royce is expected to triple its number of showrooms in 2011 to six in India. The youngest person to ever buy a Ghost sedan, which has a starting price of 29 million rupees (427,000 euros or $570,000), is from India.

Deepesh Rathore, the managing director for analysts IHS Automotive in India, said that the “new rich” in India want a car that’s not as common as BMW and Mercedes. Arora said that earlier this month, Bentley sponsored the Indian Masters tournament of polo. She also said that the company, which has dealerships in New Delhi and Mumbai, would want to open dealers in Hyderabad and Chennai in 2013.

Bentley’s new 4-liter, twin turbocharged Continental GTC V8 convertible and GT V8 coupé achieve superior power-to-emissions standards in the luxury sports car sector.

This new Bentley V8 engine remarkably generates up to 500 bhp at 6000 rpm and a terrific 660 Nm (487 lb ft) peak torque. This engine is available across the whole rev range from 1700 rpm to 5000 rpm, providing effortless power delivery and exhilarating performance. Paired with a new close-ratio eight-speed automatic transmission, this translates to a sub-five-second acceleration time from 0-60 mph at over 180 mph top speed.

Moreover, these new V8 Continental models deliver excellent levels of CO2 emissions and fuel efficiency for the luxury performance class. They are also able to travel over 500 miles on a single tank fuel. The full and official figures are going to be released early 2012.

These new V8 Continental models fulfill the carmaker’s environmental commitment to come up with a new powertrain which delivers 40% better CO2 emissions level and fuel efficiency.

Additionally, the new V8 engine boasts variable displacement with the help of a sophisticated engine management system. It ensures an imperceptible and smooth transition to V4 mode under a light throttle load.
