BMW car owners can now download the free Pandora internet radio iPhone app at www.itunes.com/appstore -- the first third party app approved for the new BMW Apps feature. BMW of North America announced that all model year 2011 and 2012 BMW vehicles that have the BMW Apps option can stream Pandora internet radio through the iPhone app.
As soon as the iPhone is linked to the vehicle, the vehicle’s existing controls can operate the Pandora’s personalized radio functions.
Just like the BMW Connected app features, the Pandora integration is smooth and glitch-free. MY 2011 BMW drivers can take advantage of Pandora features like ease in accessing current stations, creating new stations, rating tracks, and bookmarking the songs.
Stephan Durach, Director of the BMW Group Technology Office, said that the “seamless integration” of a service like Pandora showcases the new BMW Apps’ “enormous potential.”
Durach added that this function is being offered throughout the BMW product range in a manner that’s “simple to access and safer to operate.” The BMW Connected iPhone app can also be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store.
BMW apps, with its flexible design, permits a unique incorporation of smartphone functions, taking the in-car inclusion of iPhone, online and entertainment functions to the next level. BMW Apps uses the brand’s usual display and controls to make sure that each function is easy, comfortable, safe and intuitive to use while reducing driver distraction.
An iPhone can be linked to the car using a USB cable or via the middle armrest that has an accessible snap-in adapter. When the phone is connected, it can be saved whereas functions can be operated with the car’s steering wheel buttons, on-board monitor and iDrive controller.
BMW Apps, priced at $250.00, is included in the BMW 2012 model and the 2011 models produced from March 2011 and beyond. The BMW Connected App as well as the Pandora app can be availed without cost at the Apple App Store.
