As you may know already, 2011 is an important year for Bmw as the Bavarian brand will get electrified, which means that it will begin testing the Active E electric vehicles. Bmw’s MINI is already testing the MINI E electric vehicle in Beijing and Shenzen, which means that the Active E will join the MINI E in the new electric race.
What is more interesting is that Bmw will introduce a ‘New Energy Vehicle’ in April at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show.
According to the carmaker, the model will be firm’s e-car from China for China and will be based on the 5-Series LWB (long wheelbase). The car will be a plug-in hybrid and promises to benefit from the strength and the excellent reputation of the Bmw brand.
And, as expected the plans don’t stop here. Few weeks ago, Bmw revealed the I sub-brand and previewed the first cars which will be launched: the i3 and i8.
The Bmw i3 will be company’s first all-electric vehicle for the world's urban centers. While the i8 will combine the performance of a sports car with the fuel consumption of a small car. Both cars will be manufactured using carbon fiber reinforced plastic, a very light material.
