Buick’s retail sales in January had set a record – its highest in nine years. January 2013 sales were also 30% higher year over year. Buick also posted a 32% increase in total sales (which include sales to executive fleets and other commercial customers). Its sales last month are unmatched since 2006. Buick started deliveries of the Encore (its new luxury small crossover) in January.
One of the first people to get the Encore was bank underwriter Kelleigh Sheehy, from Marietta, Ga. She went to Buick.com to build the Encore of her dreams. She then visited Carl Black Buick in Kennesaw, Ga., where she found out that an exact match would be the first vehicle delivered. Sheehy said that the Encore had everything she wanted and that she didn’t have to make any type of compromise.
She had traded in a Volkswagen Jetta and the luxury, quietness and features of the Encore are unparalleled. But Sheehy cited its quietness as the Encore’s best characteristic. Recently, the Encore was named to as one of the “Top 10 Must Test Drive Vehicles for 2013” by Autotrader.com, which described it as a “nimble crossover SUV with an exceptionally quiet ride, a high-tech interior and estimated highway fuel economy of 33 mpg.”
In addition, the Encore earned a spot on the “Greener Choices 2013” list of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. Buick offers its second crossover and fifth model in the lineup just as Buick crossover sales are rising quickly. Enclave sales in January was its best ever for that month, when it comes to both retail and total sales. For the month, year-over-year growth for was 57% retail and 57% total.
Buick Encore is laden with styling cues -- including its sweeping character lines – that are in line with the brand’s global design language, thus making the vehicle easily recognizable as a Buick. Other signature Buick cues found in the Encore include the portholes on the bonnet, waterfall grille, painted lower panels as well as chrome accents and surrounds.
David Lyon, executive director of design, remarked that the new Encore introduces the brand’s iconic sculptural design to the crossover segment while combining utility, elegance and efficiency in the process. He added that the new Encore offers a confident, athletic stance, elemental beauty and rich details.
The premium appearance of the new Buick Encore is complemented by its blue-accented projector-beam headlamps, well-detailed rear lamps as well as by its 18-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels. Customers may also avail of seven-spoke chrome wheels.
Meanwhile, the interior of the Buick Encore features an organically styled instrument panel seemingly hugging the door panels. The central instrument panel serves as the home for the full-color, seven-inch LCD screen for the IntelliLink voice-activated radio system as well as for the SiriusXM satellite radio and the available navigation and rear camera systems.
