Yesterday we announced you that GM is preparing to unveil a new Cadillac concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance… well here it is… this is the Cadillac Ciel (pronounced “C-L” – the French translation for sky). The new Cadillac Ciel is a four-seat convertible that promises to open a new chapter in Cadillac’s design and product ascent, and in the same time it looks like a stylish old car.
The vehicle is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Direct Injection V6 engine paired with a hybrid system using lithium-ion battery technology. The total output delivered by the system is 425 hp and a maximum torque of 583 Nm (430 lb-ft).
Regarding the design, we must admit that it is quite impressive, but the most impressive are the rear doors hinged at the rear as well as the absence of the B-pillar. The exterior design is underlined by the sweeping nickel-plated trim. The interior is even more impressive, but remember… this is just a concept.
Some of the interior features include the sloping bolsters on the seats that will allow passengers to slide more comfortable into the seats, personal device storage area on the front of the console, power-assisted transmission shifter that deploys when then engine is started, lightning in the armrest, door storage areas inspired by premium fashion accessories that open with high-quality zippers, pull-out blankets available to all three passengers that retract automatically and heating and cooling features.
What is more interesting is that all the seats feature a drawer containing sun lotion, sun glasses and towels, as well as aromatherapy that is controlled from the rear armrest.
The joy of riding a Cadillac is exemplified perfectly in the new Ciel’s interior. The Cadillac Ciel Concept’s interior was built primarily on three basic principles (simplicity, spaciousness and authenticity).
Gael Buzyn, Cadillac’s Interior Manager, is focusing more on how to make the most of the journey. And for that, he came up with a combination of technology, elegance and comfort for the Ciel. He believes that lightness and simplicity contribute to uninterrupted driving experience. That’s why the materials and colours he used for the interior complement even the surrounding view.
As a matter of fact, the Ciel’s wheelbase measures 125 inches or at least 12 inches longer than a Cadillac CTS. A free-flowing centre console that offers sufficient space for every passenger divides the seats. At the same time, individually accessible multi-media ports are also available to cater to the passengers and the driver’s tech-driven lifestyle.
The Cadillac Ciel’s instrument panel also shows simplicity with its minimally designed gauge cluster. Nonetheless, Cadillac still puts more emphasis on authenticity and attention to details, which is evidently shown on the hidden climate ventilation system that discreetly distributes the airflow around the front and the rear.
Meanwhile, the clear gauge display with aluminium housing comes with highly advanced chronograph to deliver the most efficient and detailed information. There is also a choice between the digital and the analogue display for a more personal touch.
The luxurious seats are made even comfier with the bolstered sides so that anyone can slide to his or her seat with ease. At the front, there is a special storage for personal device with Bluetooth® and charging ports ready to be used anytime or anywhere.
The Ciel is also equipped with a power assisted transmission shifter that activates the moment you start the engine. Likewise, the lighting system on the armrest is a combination of ambient and natural light for evening and daytime driving.
This new Cadillac’s pleasantly warm and well-crafted cabin is made of Italian Olive wood accents for the front seat’s back support as well as the console and instrument panel and also at the doors.
The door area meanwhile comes with a discreet storage with stylish design and high quality closure. All three passengers have their own retractable blankets ready for the cold nights that go perfectly with the heated seats for the winter and cooling features for the summer.
If the car is headed to the beach, one can practically have everything from the drawer like a set of aromatherapy, some towels, a pair of sunnies and even a sunscreen lotion. Truly, the Ciel’s interior design is an expression of joy plus a whole lot more.
