PSA/Peugeot-Citroen will build three Citroen DS models at its joint venture with Changan Automobile Group by 2014, according to Beijing-based newspaper the Economic Observer. The models up for production will be the DS5 , a three-box sedan and a sports utility vehicle. The Economic Observer, citing Ying Zhanwan, vice president of the Changan PSA/Peugeot-Citroen joint venture, reported that domestic production of the DS5 will commence in summer 2013 while that of the sedan and SUV will start in 2014.
Ying, however, did not provide more details about the soon-to-be produced models. PSA started selling the Citroen DS4 and DS5 in China in June and the Citroen DS3 in August – all of which were imported into the country. By November 2012, Changan PSA had opened 13 dealerships for the DS models.
Citing Ying as its source, the Economic Observer reported that the number of dealerships for the DS models would soar to around 70 by the end of 2013.
According to LMC Automotive, Changan PSA managed to sell 26 DS3s, 161 DS4s and 145 DS5s since their China launch through October. Shenzhen-based Changan PSA is a 50-50 joint venture of Changan and PSA. PSA also operates a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp. that builds the Citroen C2, C4, C5 Quatre, Elysee and Triomphe as well as the Peugeot 207, 307, 308, 408 and 508.
The ground-breaking and imaginative Citroën DS5 affirms its uniqueness openly. It is a symbol of desire, an emotional car that can stir your imagination and that can transform every trip into an exceptional journey.
DS5 had a bold inspiration source: C-Sport Lounge concept. The marque’s objective was to take it even more with the actual production car.
The DS5 is a surprise. By its design, by its unique dimensions, and by its immediately recognisable profile. The one-of-a-kind body looks like a bolt of lightning taken over by the Gran Turismo spirit.
A singular construction, the DS5 has been aerodynamically sculpted into continuously stretched lines, pledging anyone looking with an incredible drive.
Meanwhile, the front end immediately classifies the DS5 as part of the DS family with a very large air intake, chevrons housed in a broad chrome-plated grille, and a penetrating look emphasised by the LED signature.
