The Fiat 500 "First Edition" that’s built exclusively for the Chinese market will feature the graphics of five young Chinese designers. Only 100 samples will be built of this model. Based on the 500 Lounge, the "First Edition" was introduced in Shanghai on July 13.
All customers who order a Fiat 500 starting that day until September 15 will get a chance at a final draw to have the car they ordered replaced with a Fiat 500 "First Edition".
Lorenzo Sistino said that the beginning of the pre-order stage is a fundamental stage for the 500 launch in China. He also considers it a milestone in the joint project of Fiat and GAC.
He reiterated that the 500 is intended to position Fiat on the market as it “best expresses the values of Fiat." The "First Edition" features a distinctive three-coat pearlescent white body color, red leather interiors and it bears a special badge on its door pillar.
The model is equipped with the 1.4 litre MultiAir with automatic six-speed transmission, with an output of 101 hp and 133 Nm of torque.
He added that the 'First Edition' is representative of a symbol that merges the two cultures. Sistino said that five Chinese artists -- Leilei, Mee Wong, Benny Luk, Nod Young, and Yan Wei – were asked to interpret the two countries’ relationship in a way that’s creative and original.
They were also tasked to make a tribute for the 500 launch in China. The 500 will feature many versions and special series aside from 100 "First Edition" models. Fiat is expected to launch the 500C convertible and the exclusive "500 by Gucci" special series by 2012.
