Citroën, Facebook let public decide on special edition C1 Connexion design

Citroën has partnered with Facebook on an app that allows the public to select the design for a new customized variant of the C1 city car, which is dubbed the Citroën C1 Connexion. This special edition vehicle will be the first production unit in the United Kingdom crowdsourced on Facebook. The C1 Connexion project has the strapline: "You like it. We make it."

This initiative will let the public decide on the design of the special edition vehicle and on the features it will be equipped with. A specially designed app is used to go through the vehicle creation process. This app is available on Citroën UK's official Facebook page at facebook.com/citroenuk. 

Six configuration elements are available, enabling people to select the number of doors, the features the vehicle will have such as Sat Nav or Bluetooth, the colors of the interior and exterior, or even classy alloy wheels. The most famous configuration of the special edition C1 Connexion will be brought into production and will be launched for sale later this year. 

Participants can also join a competition to win one of the first production variants of the special edition vehicle.

Facebook members can choose to have a personalized experience, extracting a selection of their personal information to enhance the digital environment of the configurator. 

Citroën UK's Digital Marketing Head Melina Kacherou-Carage expressed that this collaboration with Facebook is a "really exciting project" for the automaker. She added that with 'Créative Technologie', they are taking the choices of the public in order to create a vehicle for everyone -- which is "crowdsourcing in action." The New C1 Connexion will be a vehicle manufactured for the "for the Facebook generation, by the Facebook generation," she added.

Sporting a new front end with the bonnet made shorter, the Citroën C1 is able to get more personality and even added appeal. While the headlights still have those round shapes, the front bumper has been redesigned in order to hold not just the daytime running LED lights but also the fog lights.

Many have said that this is rare especially for this particular segment. Still, the way the LED light signature has that vertical design is unique to the Citroën. However, this same design has been observed in both the DS3 and the C4 AIRCROSS. With this, the C1 is also able to get a stronger character. On its rear section, this model continues to have the glass tailgate which carries the new badge and insignia.

New to the exterior as well are the 14-inch Notus wheels, with the alloy 14-inch Rift wheels as standard equipment for the higher range models. Powering the new Citroën C1 is the 3-cylinder gas-powered engine which is capable of 68 hp. This is paired to a manual gearbox which enhances the fuel economy by as much as 65.7 mpg, on a combined cycle. It even improved the CO2 emissions to 99 g/km.

This means that the C1 is exempted from being imposed a congestion charge. The C1 though is not just the first petrol-based model from Citroën to have CO2 emissions not exceeding 100 g/km. It is the first model as well to have the Electronic Gearbox System with the paddle controls mounted on the steering wheel to allow for improved handling and better driving pleasure. In particular, the EGS version has combined fuel economy at 62.8 mpg with CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.
