Chevrolet got Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner to promote its new 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible in trio 90-second promotional videos shot at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va. In one of the videos, Milner discusses the Corvette 427 convertible aerodynamics.
He took note of the optional carbon-fiber splitter, which helps reduce drag and create negative lift, allowing the car to stay on the ground for better control. Another video shows Milner providing a graphic demonstration of the car’s lightweight carbon-fiber hood.
The video also shows Milner enumerating the key performance aspects of the Corvette 427 convertible. The 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 convertible is powered by a 505-hp V8 engine, which allows it to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and to achieve a top speed of over 190 mph.
Chevrolet will start selling the Corvette 427 convertible this summer, in time for its celebration of Corvette's 60th anniversary for the 2013 model year, which is also the last year for the car’s sixth generation. The 427 convertible is based on the Grand Sport convertible with a 7.0-liter V8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission from the Z06 model.
Chevrolet revealed that a Corvette 427 Convertible will be part of the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction to be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The model will go to the highest bidder with the proceeds of the sale to be donated to the food relief program known as Drive to End Hunger. For this auction, Chevrolet has partnered with Hendrick Motorsports which includes Jeff Gordon, a four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion and a Hendrick team driver.
It was Rick Hendrick who started the Drive to End Hunger campaign in collaboration with the AARP and the AARP Foundation. This advocacy is under the multi-year sponsorship for the No. 24 Chevrolet used by Gordon. The program calls on various charitable groups, corporations, and even racing fans, to not only raise money for Americans who face of hunger but to build awareness as well and engage other people.
Chevrolet also said that all of the 2013 Corvette models, including the 427 Convertible, will be offered with the 60th Anniversary Package. Under this package, the exterior will come in Arctic White with the leather-wrapped interior coming in Blue Diamond with the suede highlights. For the convertible variant, it will have a blue top. Other features include the ZR1-style spoiler in the rear, brake calipers painted in gray, and the special badging. There is also the "60th" logo seen on the seat headrests, steering wheel, and wheel center craps.
The company will be offering an optional package which puts in Pearl Silver Blue racing stripes on the whole length. This will also come with a tonal stripe and since it has been stitched to the convertible top, the roof’s graphic theme is seen to go all the way to the roof. All Corvettes though will have the 60th Anniversary badges for the fascia and for the convertible, the waterfall panel.
The sill plates and instrument panel gauge cluster bears the 60th Anniversary logos An optional graphics package adds full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, including a tonal stripe stitched into the convertible top, extending the graphic theme over the roof. For 2013, all Corvettes will feature 60th Anniversary badges on the fascias and the "waterfall" panel on convertible models, as well as 60th logos in the instrument panel gauge cluster and on the sill plates.
