Daimler extends contract of Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard until 2018

The contract of Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, a member of the Board of Management of Daimler, was extended until February 28, 2018, as decided by the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG in its meeting. Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard became a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG on February 18, 2010. In this position, Bernhard has the responsibility for Manufacturing and Procurement Mercedes-Benz Cars as well as for the entire Mercedes-Benz Vans division.

Dr. Manfred Bischoff, Chairman of Daimler’s Supervisory Board, said that the company wants to continue the “excellent cooperation” with Wolfgang Bernhard in the Board of Management of Daimler AG and as part of the Mercedes-Benz Cars team.

He added that the management continuity is crucial for the continuing implementation of the division’s strategy and in order to attain its corporate targets. Wolfgang Bernhard’s contract of service had an expiration date of February 2013. Under Section 84 Subsection 1 of the German Stock Corporation Act (AktG), the Supervisory Board decided on the reappointment after the start of the last year of a Board of Management member’s present period of office. 

September 3, 1960 is the birthday of Dr. Bernhard, who was born in Böhen (in the Allgäu region in Germany). He graduated from high school in Bavaria. From 1980 until 1986, he was studying at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

He graduated as an industrial engineer with the special subject of electrical engineering. He studied at Columbia University in New York from 1987 until 1988. This is where he got an MBA (Master of Business Administration). He then studied at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt from 1988 until 1990 where he received a doctorate on the subject of international exchange-rate risks.
