David Brown Automotive unveils specs of its first car based on Jaguar XKR

Article by Anita Panait, on February 13, 2014

David Brown Automotive, the new British luxury auto brand, has disclosed the outline specs of its first car. Lying under the car’s bespoke exterior is the acclaimed chassis and powertrain of the Jaguar XKR – a modern 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission -- as optimized for the unit by Envisage group engineers.

The powertrain allows the car to accelerate from zero to 60mph in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of over 155mph (248 km/h). “As reliability is vital, we chose to adopt a thoroughly proven and acclaimed chassis that not only delivers dynamic performance but also lends itself to our lightweight aluminium design,” Brown said.

He said that the XKR was the obvious choice to base the car due to its performance and handling. The car’s state-of-the-art underpinnings are complemented by a completely original exterior and interior design, which is achieved through the highest quality materials and craftsmanship.

“I wanted all the impact and style of a classic sports car, but with modern capabilities and conveniences,” Brown said, adding that this is not something that any carmaker really offers.

He said that the car has been developed using a combination of both traditional and contemporary technology, including the latest in automotive expertise.  He added that the car underwent a thorough analysis and development program like windtunnel and dynamic simulations.
