Disney World to offer rides in exotic cars beginning in mid-January 2012

Article by Christian Andrei, on November 16, 2011

Starting mid-January, visitors to the Walt Disney World will get to try rides in exotic cars like Ferraris and Lamborghinis. The Richard Petty Driving Experience has already been offering stock car drives at the Disney World Speedway but it has decided to offer the new option partly because the stock car business, including NASCAR, has suffered in this difficult economy. Mike Bartelli, chief marketing officer of the Richard Petty Driving Experience, said that they wanted to build the business and so they examined what they can do in the stock car arena.

The track is available the entire year but he says that there are many people who want to drive these models on a race track. Two Ferraris, two Lamborghinis, a Porsche 911 and an Audi R8 will be available for the Exotic Driving Experience but there soon be other brands and models.

Automatic transmissions are used in all of these cars. For $99, the visitor can go on "Thrill Rides," with a Petty instructor behind the wheel. But for a true driving experience, the visitor will need to pay from $199 for six laps.

With this set-up, the instructor will be at the passenger seat. Before the ride, there will be a short period for classroom instruction. Prices will vary depending on the car. Petty plans to offer the Exotic Driving Experience at Daytona International Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway soon. Bartelli said that over 250,000 customers have tried The Petty Experience at Disney World. He believes that the Exotic Driving Experience will be “every bit as successful as the stock cars.” [source: OrlandoSentinel]
