Duncan Aldred will be the new Vauxhall chairman

Article by Christian A., on December 13, 2011

Starting January 1, Duncan Aldred (the current Vauxhall Managing Director) will also be its chairman. Aldred was named the successor of Bill Parfitt, the current Vauxhall chairman, who would soon be the director of government affairs and public policy. In Parfitt’s new position, he will continue to serve as a government liaison as well as a negotiator and supporter of growth in the UK supply chain.

GM considers the UK to be its biggest market in Europe, followed by Germany. In 2010, Vauxhall earned a 12% market share in the UK after having sold 274,700 units.

Aldred, who is 41 years old, will continue to serve as the managing director and he will run all Vauxhall operations plus human resources for GM's UK plants at Ellesmere Port and Luton. Aldred was named in January last year to be Vauxhall’s managing director.

He is credited for having built the brand with schemes like Vauxhall's lifetime warranty and sponsorship of the Four Nations soccer tournament, which includes the national teams of Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Before Aldred took up the role as Vauxhall managing director, he served as GM Europe's sales operations director in Ruesselsheim, Germany. His career began at the Ellesmere Port plant in 1990. GM considers the UK as its fourth-largest global market.
