The European New Car Assessment Programme gave a five-star rating to the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron for crash safety. This makes the A3 the safest vehicle in its category. The panel who conducted the tests was impressed with the A3 on a number of categories.

The A3, for example, obtained high scores when it came to protecting both children and adults when it came to collisions whether from the front, back, or side. Audi also passed with flying colors for pedestrian protection.

The Euro NCAP panel had added a new category -- the assistance system. Just like with the other categories, the A3 passed the test with the Audi pre sense front and active lane assist. Thus, the model also received the special "Euro NCAP Advanced" award for this protection system and the Multi Collision Brake Assist System.

This system allows the model to automatically brake during an accident and reduce the chances of skidding as well as the risk of added collision.

The Euro NCAP consortium was established in 1997 and is composed of representatives from the different European transport ministries, motoring associations, Insurers and Consumer Organizations. The standards set by Euro NCAP remain to be more stringent than those required by European laws.
