4WheelsNews was the first and only website to report about Ferrari’s new 458 Speciale Spider in June, while in August we revealed you the fact that the Italian manufacturer will show the new vehicle during a private event, held at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Eager to find out more about Ferrari’s new hardcore convertible, we contacted one of our friends who had the pleasure to see the vehicle.
Due to the renderings available on the Web with a spider version of the 458 Speciale it’s not hard to imagine how the new vehicle will look like but let’s take care of the details. First of all, we don’t expect the vehicle to be called 458 Speciale Spider but because we don’t have a clue regarding the name we’ll just continue to use it.
So, what new? Well, the 458 Speciale Spider comes with new stripes which are quite different from the ones found on the coupe version, but also with two new wheel designs.
The interior shows new seats, carbon fiber mats as well as two plaques in order to remind you that you are driving a limited edition vehicle. And speaking about a limited edition, the 458 Speciale Spider production will see just 458 units.
What’s more interesting is that the 458 Speciale Spider will not arrive with the see-through engine bonnet featured on the coupe as it will be based on the 458 Italia Spider and this model comes with another design.
The engine will be same featured on the 458 Speciale, which means we will find a 4.5-liter V8 engine that produces 605 hp at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm.
We expect the spider version to be as fast as the coupe, which means a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.1 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200 mph or 320 km/h.
Just like the Scuderia Spider 16M, the 458 Speciale Spider will take Ferrari’s fastest open-top sports car title at least until the LaFerrari Spider will arrive.
Regarding the debut of the vehicle, we might see it at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, but we need some official confirmation. Stay tuned, more details will be revealed!
