F1 driver Button set to appear at Brands Hatch DTM weekend driving the ‘race taxi’

Article by Anita Panait, on May 16, 2012

Jenson Button, the race driver for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team, will be gracing the third race of the current DTM season slated on May 18 to 20, 2012. Button’s visit is scheduled to be at the DTM race on May 20, where he will first meet fellow team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes member Gary Paffett, the current DTM championship leader with his THOMAS SABO Mercedes AMG C-Coupé.

Paffett, who won the first race of the DTM season, will then show him around the new DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, and walk him through the differences of the DTM car and an F1 vehicle. After familiarizing with the controls of the new DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, Button will then serve as “race taxi” driver, giving Paffett a ride around the Brands Hatch circuit.

Button, who won the opening race of the 2012 Formula 1 season in Melbourne, last drove around Brands Hatch in 1999 while competing for the British Formula 3 Championship. After ferrying Paffett around the course, Button will then participate in an autograph session for fans at 11:10 in the morning in front of the Mercedes-Benz hospitality suite.

The autograph session will be followed by a question and answer session to be moderated by Mercedes-Benz DTM driver David Coulthard, who drives a DHL Paket Mercedes AMG C-Coupé and is the expert analyst on the BBC live coverage of Formula 1 racing. Button’s Formula 1 career includes 13 Grand Prix wins for different teams like Honda, Brawn GPMercedes and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes – 12 of them using Mercedes-Benz cars. He also won 2009 Formula 1 World Championship title for Brawn GP, a Mercedes-Benz customer team.
