The new Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M was unveiled at the World Finals in Mugello, in order to celebrate the victory in the Formula 1 Constructor'd World Championship 2008.
The new vehicle wich will be available in a limited edition of just 499 units is available in a choice of two new signature color schemes: the standard version is black with grey trim, while a tricolour livery is also available as part of the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme.
The car also features a special plate on its rear grille commemorating Ferrari's 16th Constructor's World title while at the interior a special silver limited series plate is placed above the air vents at the centre of the dash board.
Also, at the interior the car features a sport steering wheel with carbon-fiber, a new audio system that comes with a customised Ferrari iPod Touch 16 GB with central dock just in front of the dashboard.
Under the hood, the 1340 kg vehicle comes with a 4.3-liter V8 engine capable to deliver 510 hp 8500 rpm and 470 Nm of torque at 5250 rpm, pushing the vehicle to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds while the top speed is limited to 315 km/h or 196 mph.
The car features also a the six-speed plus reverse F1 gearbox fitted with a dry dual clutch and an electronic differential E-diff + F1-Trac. Stopping is not a problem due to the 398 mm carbon-ceramic discs on the front and 350 mm on the rear used behind the 19 inch five-spoke alloy wheels.
Ferrari has been using E-Diff in Formula 1 races for years, and now the technology has found its way into the stability control systems of the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M. E-Diff, in a smart manner, transmits torque to the wheels through the hydraulic actuation of two sets of friction discs and their connected reaction discs.
The amount of torque that E-Diff delivers is contingent on driving conditions, as the system works to appropriately vary the effect of the differential, thereby generating advantages in terms of performance and active safety, as well as directional stability and driving pleasure.
Furthermore, E-Diff – also integrated with other systems of the vehicle – enabling drivers via the steering wheel-mounted manettino to modify the set-up depending on road-holding conditions.
Another Formula 1-derived technology found in the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M is the F1-TRAC traction control system that ensures that the car exhibits optimal traction when exiting corners. Moreover, F1-TRAC ensures that the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M is stable, easy to drive and comfortable as well as able to perform as it is intended to.
When equipped with both E-Diff and F1-Trac, the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M's acceleration performance when exiting out of corners increases by around 40 percent compared to conventional systems of stability and traction control.
Furthermore, the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M employs a Racing variant of the manettino. This version focuses on sporty driving while offering more options to configure the parameters of its electronic controls.
Moreover, Ferrari got rid of the ICE setting on the F430 and replaced it with the CT position, which deactivates only traction control, while allowing stability control to remain in operation.
