Fiat to supply 100,000 more diesel engines annually to Suzuki’s Indian unit

Article by Christian A., on January 19, 2012

Amid strong demand in the Indian vehicle market, Fiat will be supplying a maximum of 100,000 more diesel engines annually to Suzuki Motor's Indian unit, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., for three years, on top of those already licensed. Suzuki owns 54.2 percent of Maruti Suzuki. The 1.3-liter MultiJet 75-hp engine will be utilized in Suzuki vehicles in India produced by Maruti Suzuki.

This is the same engine that Fiat supplies to General Motors in Europe. It is also the engine that Fiat equips its Fiat 500, Panda and Punto.

In September, Volkswagen Group accused the Japanese vehicle manufacturer of breaching their partnership deal by purchasing engines from Fiat. The group has a 19.9% share of Suzuki. Suzuki contested the accusation.

In November, it opened an arbitration proceeding against VW to force the German company to relinquish its shares. VW stated it has no plans to let go of its shareholding.

The Fiat 500 was conceptualized as a way for eccentricity and minimalism to meet. Instead of being an exclusive concept, Fiat conceptualized the 500 to adapt to the needs of every individual and at the same time become technologically advanced most especially in the area of incorporating electronic techniques on Plug In passenger compartment. An apt example is the availability of a second generation Blue&Me as well as the incorporation of the iPod through the socket and battery charger. Also, fitted directly onto the dashboard of the Fiat 500 (partnered by Magneti Marelli) is the new portable navigator capable of connecting all other vehicle functions.

These customizations however are not limited to the Fiat 500 only. Thanks to Fiat Group Automobiles Financial Services’ different forms of payment, which includes the ‘500 Cents’ and ‘50to500’ program, any version of the Fiat 500 inclusive of customization is now readily available to the customers. Should they purchase a Fiat 500, the customer may opt to pay 5 euros a day with no down payment or pay half of the total price immediately and complete the balance in 2 years.

Once a customer chooses to avail any of these loans, he/she may be given a 5 year per 500,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and other services (first time in Fiat history, by the way) and complete a 24-hour roadside service. Home service is also available especially during periodic maintenance or if the customer opts to bring it down to the service center, then all taxi fares shall be reimbursed.

Fiat offers different programs to make the Fiat 500 more accessible for everyone. Fiat aims on making the Fiat 500 a car “of the people, made by the people, and for the people”. This ‘New Fiat’ is a Fiat for everyone. Its birth is a representation of the start of a new chapter for the company and a declaration of its role in the future in the market and amongst society.

Fiat 500 is a stimulus to a whole new understanding of conscious consumption setting the bar, and redefines the whole driving experience by focusing on the quality of emotions and uniqueness of the brand instead of quantity. The Fiat 500 is an epitome of simplification without having to sacrifice quality.
