A 184% sales increase was recorded by Ford Motor Co.’s India subsidiary for 2010. Ford sold 83,887 vehicles in India in 2010, compared to 29,488 units in 2009. Ford revealed that its year-on-year December sales in India were up 172% compared to December 2009.
And on Ford India’s Midnight Sale promotion on Dec. 4, it received record-high bookings on a single day. Just last month, the Ford Figo was named as the Indian Car of the Year 2011 by a jury of automobile journalists.
That same week, the Figo was selected by ET ZigWheels for the twin honors of Best Premium Hatch and ET ZigWheels Car of the Year 2010.
In a statement, Michael Boneham, president and managing director at Ford India, said that Ford India had an “outstanding year” with growth rates rising by nearly triple digits. He also said that it is “extremely gratifying” to note Figo’s prestigious industry awards as well as seeing plenty of Figos on the roads of India.
And it doesn’t appear like sales of the Figo are waning. In fact, sales are continuing to rise, with over 60,000 units sold in India since it was launched last March.
Ford India also noted a favorable month for its nameplates, including Fiesta, Ikon and the Endeavour. Ford India has been expanding its sales and service network across the country. Its dealer network has risen to over 170 across 100 cities in India, which is a key market in Ford's global strategy. [via Detroit News]
