Ford revealed today a more powerful evolution of the Fiesta: this is the Ford Fiesta S1600. According to the manufacturer, the new car will be produced in a limited edition of just 500 examples, each powered by a 1.6-litre Duratec Ti-VCT petrol engine delivering 134PS at 6,700rpm and 160Nm of torque at 4,250rpm.
The 2011 Fiesta S1600 is capable to hit 60 mph in just 8.2 seconds, an improvement of 1.7 seconds. Regarding the design, the new car comes with a new body styling kit consisting of a new front bumper with flared lower valence panel, extended side skirts, large rear spoiler and rear diffuser, and with 17in white alloy wheels.
Moreover, Frozen White or Performance Blue liveries are available, with contrasting motorsport stripes. Inside, the car features heated, stitched leather sports seats with standard side-airbags, leather steering wheel, handbrake cover and gear-knob, plus motorsport-branded floor mats and scuff plates. Ford says that the new car continues the 30-year sporting bloodline that began with the Fiesta XR2 in 1981 and has included Supersport, XR2i, Si, RS and ST models.
Even if the vehicle is standing still, its kinetic design brings with it a feeling of movement and even harmonizes the different character elements in order to display Ford’s global identity. It is because of this that the Ford Fiesta can project an impression of confidence, individuality, and style. The Fiesta aims to capture the youthful "design progressive" demographic. This is the group where consumers put high-value on diversity and style and look at them as worthy assets.
Ford Fiesta design manager Kevin George shared that the influential potential customers of the Fiesta can easily relate to the 'energy in motion' design philosophy as it echoes their very own lifestyle and outlook. On its front, the Fiesta has the face that the brand is known for around the world. In the center of the grill is the Blue Oval badge. Under it is the brand’s signature lower grille opening that is shaped like an inverted trapezoid.
These different subtle cues ensure there is familiarity across the product line. It also allows for the visual link between the bold Fiesta, the mid-size and fuel efficient Fusion, and the unique Ford Taurus. On the face of the Fiesta are the elongated and sweeping headlamps which give the appearance of having eyes. These headlamps frame and connect the sculpted front fenders to the hood. The Ford Fiestas continues to provide enough space for the occupants and their luggage and is available in the four-door sedan version and the five-door hatchback body style.
At the back of the vehicle, one can observe that the different design elements start to merge. An example of this is the chamfered rear liftgate glass. There are the taillamps that have a honeycomb detail and have been mounted on the corners of the five-door version. Another example is the low roofline that manages to sweep to the spoiler.
Since the muscular quarter panels in the rear have been wrapped tightly, this puts the focus on the wheels and ultimately the vehicle’s confident stance. Improving the design even further are the nine new intense colors made available like Blue Flame, Bright Magenta, and Lime Squeeze to name a few. The number of colors being offered is a lot more compared to its rivals in the same segment.
Because of these wide color choices, the Fiesta is able to inspire vibrant individuality. While the Fiesta is clearly dramatic on the exterior, the same can be said for the inside. The use of the contrasting colors, supportive and comfortable materials, and the boldly sculpted surfaces, ensure that the interior is just as unique as the driver.
For the interior, the central focus remains to be the instrument panel centerstack. This feature was designed to make sure that they are familiar and useful as that of a mobile phone’s keypad. Another highlight of the North American Ford Fiesta is the first-row bucket seats and the second-row seats that allow for 60/40 split.
The leather or cloth seating surfaces generally depend on the trim level and thus offer style, comfort, and more importantly, individuality. High series Fiestas meanwhile have leather with the sporty contrast and highlight color piping.
