Ford launches new Econo Check iPhone app to help you cut fuel costs

Article by Christian A., on December 28, 2010

Ford has launched a new Econo Check app made for iOS devices that could compute possible fuel savings for any vehicle – using make, model, age and annual mileage as bases. Moreover, this new app could pick up any fuel efficient driving tip on an iPhone or an iPad.

This app is part of Ford’s Econo Check service that allows Ford vehicles to be equipped with a data logger for seven days to monitor the way they are driven. Ford commenced this year the sales of the new service, which could help drivers minimize their use of petrol and diesel.

After seven days, the Econo Check chip will be removed and data will be downloaded. Then a custom report will describe how modifying gear changes, anticipation, acceleration and braking could help improve fuel economy. Econo Check will also show the resulting savings, which could reach as high as 25 percent or £474 a year, according to a survey of 50,000 drivers.

With the new Econo Check app, any iPhone or iPod users – regardless of their vehicle make – could access Ford Econo Check tips and get data for their rides. Ford drivers, meanwhile, could have a nearest Ford dealer to book an Econo Check for their personalized report.

Paul Muers, Ford customer service marketing manager, remarked that the new Econo Check app will help people drive more efficiently. He said that with a price of £11.99, an Econo Check is ideal especially with fuel prices at a record high.

The £11.99 Econo Check on qualified Ford vehicles covers a £10 amount that’s refundable against the next scheduled service. Ford's Econo Check app can be downloaded for at iTunes.
