Ford Predicts an Increase in Hybrid Sales

Article by Christian Andrei, on January 8, 2013

Ford has been putting a great deal of time and energy into the development of hybrid vehicles such as the 2013 Ford Fusion, and this seems set to pay off. According to a recent Ford press release, the 2013 Ford Fusion was just named America's most fuel-efficient sedan as well as Green Car of the Year.

The auto manufacturer predicts that news like this will help fuel sales of hybrids in the next sales quarter, making it the company's most potentially successful quarter for hybrid vehicles yet. Although this remains to be seen, it is indicative of a consumer demand for greater efficiency and convenience in hybrid vehicles. With an increase in hybrid vehicles available at and other listings sites, Ford is just one of many companies stepping up to meet this demand.

Fuel Efficiency of Ford Hybrids

The Ford Fusion Energi has been revamped for 2013, now offering 108 MPGe in the city. This makes it more efficient than comparable vehicles such as the Toyota Prius. According to figures from the EPA, the Fusion has also been certified to deliver 92 MPGe on the highway for a combined total of 100 MPGe. The Fusion Energi is the fifth hybrid vehicle launched by Ford in the past year, as the company strives to meet an increase in consumer demand.

There are a number of new features to take note of in the updated Ford Fusion, including instant fuel economy and battery power readings in the vehicle for drivers to monitor how much fuel they're using. This can help consumers figure out what impacts their fuel efficiency, so that they can drive more efficiently overall. The battery readings also let drivers know when it's time to charge up the vehicle.

The latest Ford hybrids are also outfitted with the MyFord Touch system, which connects phone, navigation, and entertainment capabilities. Some models allow voice commands. One exciting innovation that should help further improve efficiency is a built-in GPS that learns frequent destinations. This information can then be used to determine how to maximize electric-only driving time.

Ford's Projected Sales Figures

With strong sales over the past fiscal year, Ford predicts that they will sell over 19,000 hybrid vehicles in the quarter to come. This would be a new record for a three-month sales period. This boost in projected sales comes at a time when consumers are eager for more fuel-efficient options on the market. Ford has been ranked as the top brand in fuel economy customer satisfaction, according to J.D. Power and Associates.

This is true for its hybrid vehicles as well as its other models. When many consumers read a Ford Focus review, they're looking for news about its fuel economy. This model may be a top seller due in large part to the 67 mpg it offers on the road as well as its low level of carbon emissions. With new features and higher levels of efficiency, Ford's line of hybrid vehicles offers more convenience to drivers than in the past. Whether this will pan out to record-setting sales is a story to watch in the year to come.
