Streaming music service Spotify has teamed up with Ford Motor Co to enable its subscribers to listen to music in over a million Ford units in North America. Those who own Ford models equipped with SYNC AppLink can get access to Spotify's catalog composed of over 20 million songs via voice activation by using its smartphone app.
This agreement is the first collaboration between the two companies. Spotify, a free on-demand streaming music service, also offers a subscription package that permits listening to music without commercial interruptions. It also allows for more access to lists and preferences from any device at any time.
Spotify has 20 million active users throughout the globe, with 25% who are paying subscribers. Partnerships have been entered by music services like Spotify and Pandora Media Inc with automakers so that their music can be available to drivers, particularly since the vehicles have been getting better Internet access.
Pandora is offered in 75 auto models and has agreements with automakers such as General Motors Co, Ford, BMW and Chrysler Group LLC. Drivers can plug in their Pandora-enabled mobile devices and the service can be controlled through the car dashboards. Over a million people have utilized the dashboard integration of Pandora. In a separate matter, GM said that it can switch to AT&T Inc from Verizon Wireless to offer high-speed wireless service for its models for 2015.
