General Motors is recalling 303,000 of its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks in the United States to repair a software glitch that could result to engine compartment fires. According to GM, eight fires have been confirmed, including three customer-owned vehicles, but that no injuries have been reported.
GM said the fires occurred in areas with "very cold weather." Four of the fires occurred in trucks at GM dealerships and one was in a GM-owned vehicle. The carmaker is advising owners to avoid leaving their trucks idle while unattended. The glitch was found in pickups powered by 4.3-liter and 5.3-liter V-8 engines. Trucks with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, however, suffered no glitch.
According to the carmaker, it is contacting customers to alert them of the problem, which is indicated by a yellow "check engine light" and an "engine power reduced" message in the instrument panel.
The carmaker said the software glitch could result to overheating of exhaust parts and may lead to engine compartment fires. GM launched the redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks last summer.
GM disclosed that recall letters will be mailed out to owners on Jan. 16, 2014. Customers can contact dealers to set appointments starting next week, with the repair taking only about 20 minutes. The automaker has already advised the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the recall. GM is also recalling another 67,000 pickups in Canada and Mexico.
The Chevrolet Silverado has done much to win drivers over and be nominated to be the best in terms of its look, feel and technology.
This can be seen in the new optional improvements including heated and cooled seats in the LTZ model, a new look front end, and an upgraded navigation system which removes the need for discs with maps. In particular, both the overall design and comfort of the White Diamond Edition has been improved.
Chevrolet's ongoing technological commitments mean that OnStar and SiriusXM satellite radio come as standard along with Bluetooth, USB connectivity and Wi-Fi.
The StabiliTrak has been improved so that all models (excluding Hybrid models) come with Trailer Sway Control and the Hill Start Assist feature.
Maria Rohrer, Marketing Director for Chevrolet Truck said that its consumers want a truck which can outperform any other model and that's what the 1500 series gives them.
He also said that the company is providing a Chevrolet with its trademark V-8 reliability and excellent performance. He said that its fuel efficiency is second-to-none and that the brand has an extremely diverse range of vehicles for all needs. Sales, which were up 7% this July, prove that its products have the right specifications and technological advancements that consumers demand.
The latest iteration comes with a chrome mesh grille and surrounds, depending on whether you take the LS or the LT model, whereas the LTZ uses a surround that’s the same color as the body.
The lower bumper fascia is available painted silver on the LS and LT models to complement its 20 inch chrome-clad alumunium wheels. In terms of colors, Chevrolet has added four additional options including Carbon Flash Metallic, Graystone, Mocha Steel Metallic and Silver Ice Metallic. For the interiors, the new options include Dark and Light Cashmere and Dark and Light Titanium.
