Gran Turismo 5 sales hit 5.5 million copies in just 12 days

Article by Christian Andrei, on December 10, 2010

Only 12 days have passed since the release of the latest installment of the Gran Turismo franchise but already, 5.5 million copies have been sold, according to Sony. There’s no arguing that Gran Turismo, which was introduced nearly 13 years ago, is one of the most successful games ever for Sony.

As of Dec. 6, the volume of the entire franchise has reached over 60 million copies. With its new physics engine, the Gran Turismo 5 can give the player control to over 1,000 licensed karts and cars built globally.

Gran Turismo remains to be one of the most appealing racing titles due to its stereoscopic 3D support, real-time car damage, dynamic weather effects, kart racing, a Course Maker, and online and community feature.

Players can choose from 1,000+ cars on 35 courses designed in over 60 layouts, while the Ad hoc multiplayer races and trading or sharing cars, enable players to explore a new lineup of communication methods.
