Kia may be producing its first rear-wheel-drive model derived from a recently revealed four-door GT sport sedan concept, according to Peter Schreyer, Kia's global design boss. The GT concept is built on a variant of the Hyundai Genesis platform. Powering this vehicle is a 395-hp, 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 with gasoline direct injection.
He said that the production version’s layout and basic proportions are all “very realistic."
Actually, Kia doesn’t currently have solid plans to produce the GT. He said that Kia will have to assess the response of the public and the press to this “design exercise.”
Schreyer said that the GT was created as a potential halo car for Kia, which doesn’t currently have a performance vehicle. He added that this vehicle is “different” and will “open a new branch in the tree” of Kia’s product family, according to Autonews.
Make way for another first with Kia’s new four-door sedan with rear wheel drive to boot. Finally, the new Kia GT concept vehicle has arrived. The powerful stance of a sports sedan and the dynamic driving capability of RWD are truly worth every second of waiting.
Although Kia’s European designers have thought about this concept before, it’s only this time that they have decided to execute the plan. Peter Schreyer (Chief Design Officer) described how the concept has allowed them to explore new grounds.
He also explained how the rear wheel drive layout appeals to European and American consumers.
Meanwhile, the dynamic principle is defined perfectly with the GT’s aeronautic theme. We can see it all over the propeller-type carbon- alloy wheels, rear cameras, low-lying air intakes as well as the diffusers with tiny wings at the front.
We’ve first seen the aeronautic theme at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor show. By all means, the Kia Kee Concept car continues to inspire the latest Kia models. Even the Kia Pop Concept from 2010 was revived in the latest concept model. Once again, Kia has got something “new with a twist” for the biggest fans of concept cars around the world.
