The perfect backflip was pulled off by famous extreme sportsman, freestyle skier and rally driver Guerlain Chicherit using a MINI at the winter sports resort of Tignes in France. The MINI model has won the Dakar Rally two times in a row and has done well in over 100 markets around the globe but this one is a first for a vehicle.
Chicherit, who is 34 years old, was able to accomplish this maneuver on a static ramp. He came down to some fresh powder snow, unharmed after a flawlessly done backflip on a special built track. You can view this jump at youtube.com/mini on the MINI YouTube channel.
Chicherit has had a very exciting career in extreme sports and this airbound stunt tops everything he has done so far. He is a four-time freestyle skiing world champion and is a two-time winner of the French rally championship.
He is a veteran of the X-raid Team (which earned two straight Dakar Rally titles in January 2013 with the MINI ALL4 Racing). He had made his debut for the German firm in 2006. In 2011, Chicherit drove the MINI ALL4 Racing in South America for the most challenging rally in the world.
Chicherit proved his expertise and passion for extreme sports with the MINI Backflip show event in Tignes – one of the most famous winter sports locations in France.
This was where the 1992 Winter Olympic Games’ freestyle skiing competitions were held. Attempts for the backflip had been made by other drivers.
However, Chicherit is the only the first artist on an automobile to have the perfect landing as well as the only one to do it “unassisted.” This means that he didn’t benefit from a special ramp with moving elements to boost the rotational movement of the car.
