Holden presents the new E Series 2 lineup

Article by Christian Andrei, on August 29, 2010

Not many could have predicted that Holden's plan to use leftover Pontiac G8 hoods for a special edition car would come out this wild. While Holden's Senator and Grange models sport a different look, Holden's E Series 2 models built off the Holden Commodore -- the G8's base. The HSV stylists did an admirable job. They've modified the split grille considerably and crafted a wild front fascia.

The 'tamer' models are the Clubsport R8 E Series 2 models, which are extremely close to a G8 GXP. The E Series 2 models are available in sedan, wagon (Tourer), and ute (Maloo) forms.

You also get a 425-hp LS3 6.2-liter V-8, your choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission (the former includes launch control), and 19-inch wheels.

You can also ask for leather-trimmed seats, 20-inch wheels, and a bi-modal exhaust, similar to the system found on the Corvette. These features are standard on the HSV GTS E Series 2, which is the top of the limited-edition lineup.

In addition, Holden boosts the LS3 V-8 to a 435 hp, adds a competition-tuned stability control system, magnetic ride control, and four-piston front and rear brake calipers.

The only apparent option available is to spring for larger six-piston front brake calipers, which also add unique wheel accents. All these top-of-the-line modifications come at a high cost.

The most affordable is the Maloo R8 E Series 2 at about $54,000 USD. The R8 E Series 2 sedan fetches $57,000, and an extra grand brings home the R8 Tourer wagon. The GTS, however, would cost you $70,000.
