With 27,328 units sold, the Honda Civic is the top-selling compact car in the U.S. for the month of October 2013. The Toyota Corolla came in second with 23,637 units sold. These top two contenders performed well but the others in the compact car segment failed to impress. At third place is the Chevrolet Cruze, with 16,087 units sold, which is 15.9% lower than its sales in October 2012.
Coming in at No. 4 is the Ford Focus with only 15,108 units sold last month. Notably, the Chevrolet Cruze has done better than the Ford Focus in year-to-date sales. However, the Focus could still be able to surpass the 8100-unit lead of the Cruze. With 14,876 units sold, the Hyundai Elantra is now fifth from having third place last year.
At least, Hyundai posted an improvement in sales compared to October 2012. The sixth-place Volkswagen Jetta lineup posted a significant decline in sales. VW sold only 11,710 Jetta sedans and Sportwagens in October 2013, a drop of 13.1%. With 8399 units sold, the Nissan Sentra took seventh place.
The Mazda3 trails closely with 7674 units sold. The Dodge Dart is ninth with 5617 sold while the Subaru Impreza/WRX takes tenth place with 4923 units sold. It should also be mentioned that the Kia Forte reported sales of 4706 units while Volkswagen had 2249 of its Golf units sold.
