Despite the impact of the Japan earthquake on Honda’s production and sales in North America, it is on course to sell more than 1.3 million vehicles in the U.S. in 2012. This is higher than its estimate last January that it will reach sales of 1.02 million units this year. Dealers have been selling its Civic and CR-V models quickly and so, Honda raised its sales goal by over 25%.
Honda anticipates a 27% increase in sales for the year, an amazing feat especially when you consider that Honda had to rise above the criticisms about the new Civic’s interior and the interruption in the deliveries. Honda said that 2012 seems to be better than 2011 but then the brand has higher goals.
When interviewed by WardsAuto, Mike Accavitti, vice president of marketing for American Honda, said that since 2997 and 2008, the company has been posting its best results. In the first half of 2012, Honda sold 628,046 vehicles.
This is the highest level since 2008, when 720,444 units were sold in the first half. Through the end of June, sales of the redesigned CR-V grew by 32.3%. Honda asserts that the new model is on course to reach an all-time sales record, exceeding the 219,000 units sold in 2007.
Meanwhile, the Civic has been able to keep its title as the top-selling compact car on the market, with a 27.4% increase in the first half of the year to 162,582 cars. Honda sold 155,178 units of the Accord in the first half of the year, a 22.1% increase.
The old generation Honda CR-V attributes its success and fame as the most in-demand SUV from 2007 to 2010 to its size and convenient proportion. It also continues to maintain its popularity with its sophisticated exterior detailing, extensive full-body taillights, and multi-reflector halogen headlights.
In comparison to the previous-generation models, the new 2012 Honda CR-V takes on a more aerodynamic and bolder stance with sculpted bodylines and an aggressive front fascia. Its front bumper is also designed with deeply embedded multi-reflector headlights and a stylish three-bar grille. The CR-V’s unique vertical rear brake lights were maintained in 2012 to complement the vehicle’s aerodynamic design. Its fender flares and large wheels also show the CR-V’s strong presence and impressive capabilities.
2012 CR-V is set to dominate its rivals by improving its aerodynamic efficiency with its smart and modern design elements. To reduce the drag coefficient, it is also built with an integrated rear spoiler and a longer roofline.
Among its important accessories (available for CR-V LX and EX), the CR-V EX-L comes with silver roof rails that are connected from the A-pillars and that continue through the roofline and extend to the car’s back end. These roof rails serve as attachment points for a convenient accessory rack, while at the same time enhance its sensual visual element.
