Hyundai ix25 will be offered Europe and the US, sources say

Article by Christian A., on October 28, 2014

Although the Hyundai ix25 crossover was developed for the Chinese market, it appears that the new vehicle will also arrive in Europe and the United States starting in 2017. Still, there is no official information and a company spokesman declined to give any details and said that the vehicle was developed specifically for China.

For those who don’t know, the ix25 was unveiled back in August at the 2014 Chengdu Auto Show and already went on sale in China. Former Hyundai executive Mark Hall already told Automotive News Europe that the company needs an entry in the subcompact segment.

Hyundai was considering using a product from elsewhere and bring it up to the standards that the European market expects. Until the new model arrives, the South Korean manufacturer will try to fill the gap with a version of the i20 featuring a rugged look.

The new model based on the i20 is expected next spring but Hyundai will also try to extend the number of entries in the subcompact segment and will unveil a tree-door version of the i20 coupe and it is currently considering a station wagon version as well. [source: automotive news - sub. required]
