Infiniti M Long-Wheel-Base introduced in China

Article by Christian A., on April 24, 2012

At the Auto China 2012 in Beijing, Infiniti brought the M Long-Wheel-Base Hybrid, a longer version of the well-known M sedan designed especially for the Chinese market. According to Infiniti the M long-wheel-base, available in M35hL Hybrid and M25 normally aspirated versions, is the first high-end Infiniti luxury sedan tailor-made for Chinese customers.

The vehicle features an extended wheelbase (3050 mm - +150 mm comparing it with the standard Infiniti M) as its most prominent feature in order to add substantial space and comfort. As expected, the M Long-Wheel-Base features plenty of high-tech safety and comfort features, such as Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention and other systems comprising the Dynamic Safety Shield.

Furthermore, we find a 16-speaker 5.1 channel Bose Premium Surround Sound system, Active Noise Control and Forest Air, but also an innovative climate control system designed to promote alertness and relieve stress.

The engine found on the M35hL Hybrid is a 3.5-liter V6 delivering 360 horsepower (240kW/6800 rpm) and maximum torque of 258 lb-ft (350Nm/5200 rpm), while the a motor with two clutches drawing power from a lithium battery pack in the trunk area adds another 50kW and 199 ft-lb (270Nmin) power and torque respectively. The M25L carries a 2.5-liter VQ25 HR engine delivering 232 horsepower (173kW/6400 rpm) and max torque of 187 lb-ft (253Nm/4800 rpm).

The Infiniti M has long been known among luxury-car customers in the U.S. for its quality. This latest incarnation, in its metal form, was first unveiled in Beverly Hills, California. Sales of this model started in the U.S. in the spring of 2010. However the brand had, in August, presented a virtual 3D version of this model though video mapping.

This presentation started what would be firsts by the Infiniti M range. The newest member of the M Line is able to fully utilize the different strengths of the brand to make sure that each model released will be able to meet even the strictest of driver demands. Strengths include the use of adaptive technology, an engine designed for racing, lightweight components, double-wishbone suspension with many of the brand’s sports handling technology and 4-Wheel Active Steering, and a highly-advanced design for the chassis that allows for weight distribution that is almost perfect.

In order to make sure that the M would offer the best when it comes to cabin room, ride, and appearance, it has what may be the longest wheelbase in its segment. Infiniti revealed that this beautiful and highly-advanced saloon will be released to the Europe as well. Each model that Infiniti has released has been designed and equipped in order to make it succeed even in the toughest of executive car markets.

This third generation M though will bring with it the characteristics that made it popular in the U.S. while having the high-performance abilities required to be able to drive on the roads of Europe. In terms of design, the new M is clearly an Infiniti model especially with the complex surfacing and the subtle curves. This results in the new model having an emotional draw that is so much better compared to the serious and colder models in the same class.

With a new section for the front bumper and the deeply sculpted door surfaces, this makes the new M that much more unique. It also gives it a more aggressive feel as well as a sense of intrigue. Just under the glasshouse is a body crease which is clearly inspired from the Essence, a concept car from Infiniti that debuted during the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.
