Jaguar introduced the new top-of-the-line XJ Ultimate at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. This model comes with the Meridian Surround Sound System that offers unmatched music reproduction in a luxury saloon. To make this possible, Jaguar partnered with Meridian Audio, the leading specialist manufacturer of high-end audio and video entertainment systems in the UK.
The XJ Ultimate is the range-topping version of Jaguar’s XJ saloon. According to Ian Callum, Director of Design at Jaguar, the XJ Ultimate has been fitted with the best audio system available to add to its exclusive specification.
Jaguar determined that Meridian would be the ideal partner in its objective. Jaguar’s customers will be getting a great listening experience.
The Meridian Surround Sound System was developed and designed specially for the XJ Ultimate, offering 15-channels of amplification and 20 loudspeakers that are strategically positioned all over the cabin. Meridian’s Digital Signal Processing technologies place the passengers of the XJ Ultimate at the centre of the sound field.
Meridian is able to achieve this via its Trifield technology that forms an all-enveloping sound field that makes listeners sense that the music is focused just on him or her.
Bob Stuart, Meridian’s Co-Founder, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer, said that the Meridian Surround Sound System available in the XJ Ultimate establishes new standards in the luxury saloon car class. He said that acoustic reproduction is a challenge inside cars but he asserts that Meridian has built the first car systems that provide the experience from an original musical performance.
As a brand, Jaguar has made it a point to always keep in touch with their loyal customers. This is true for the Jaguar XJ as the new color combination for the interior was a result of listening to feedback from the brand’s customers. Both the Portfolio trim and Premium Luxury trim are still offered; though Jaguar will now be offering the Jet/Ivory trim.
With this, the XJ gets an ivory seating that is contrasted with jet stitching, upper surfaces, and piping. Its headlining meanwhile is offered in either Ivory or Jet, depending on what the customer wants. Through the different improvements being offered for the cabin, the 2012 XJ range is able to have better flexibility and even have greater personalization.
Offered is a new Rear Comfort Pack which allows the backrest recline angle to be adjusted electronically. The pack also adds a massage function and even a four-way lumber support.
Comfort is enhanced as well with the footrests and the winged headrests. In addition, when no one is occupying the passenger seat in the front, it can be stowed forward and thus increase the amount of legroom for those sitting in the rear. For the Portfolio trim in particular, the wheelbase is now longer. Utilizing the “Executive Pack” as a basis, the rear portion of the XJ can be converted to a high-speed mobile office space.
It even has the fold-down laptop trays and with the inclusion of the electric sunblind in the rear, privacy is assured. Other improvements with this package are the carpeting being upgraded and the steering wheel showing a mix of leather and wood. Gloss wood veneer choices are offered and there are also the chrome mirror housings.
Jaguar however made it clear that all versions of the XJ will have the Illumination Package, the same one fitted as standard on the Supersport. The package includes air vents on the front and the rear, boot latch, and illuminated tread plates.
