If some of you considered it a rumor and wanted something official, we have it now! Lamborghini released an official invitation to the 2012 Beijing Motor Show showing a silhouette of the Urus SUV. Why Urus? Well, earlier today we announced that Chinese media believes the new Lamborghini SUV will be called Urus.
Still, there is nothing official and we must not forget that Lamborghini also trademarked Deimos name. Unfortunately, we don’t have any details regarding the new SUV, but looking at the sketch it seems that the Urus will be a three-door concept and will follow the same design line found on the Aventador but also on the Estoque Concept, unveiled back in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show.
Moreover, we know that the new Lambo SUV will be powered by a V10 engine borrowed from the Gallardo and delivering around 600 hp.
Permanent all-wheel drive is a great part of Lamborghini’s DNA. However, the Italian brand is also not new to the SUV segment. It founded its super-luxury SUV line with its legendary and revolutionary LM002, which was unveiled in 1986 and was in production until 1992. The Lamborghini LM002 was designed for off-road driving, with its 12-cylinder engine delivering 450 hp and a top speed of over 210 kmph, its luxurious interior, and its striking appearance. But while there were only a little more than 300 units produced, the LM002 was able to secure its spot in the automotive industry.
Now, with the Lamborghini Urus, the carmaker’s designers and engineers have come up with another iconic vehicle. And staying true to Lamborghini tradition, this name is also bull-related. The Urus, which is also called Aurochs, is one of the wild ancestors of today’s domestic cattle. The auroch is a large Spanish fighting bull bred in the past 500 years. The Lamborghini Urus is large, too, measuring up to 1.8 meters at the shoulder.
The Lamborghini Urus boasts a concept that places design, driving fun, and performance uncompromisingly and firmly front and center, redefining the benchmark for its competition. Also, it offers ample space for four as well as a generous amount of storage space. It is the Lamborghini for day to day driving, for leisure trips with friends, and for travel with the family.
