Lamborghini unveils the Gallardo LP550-2 Hong Kong 20th Anniversary Edition

Article by Christian A., on July 6, 2012

A special edition Gallardo LP550-2 model dubbed the HK20 was created to commemorate its 20th anniversary in Hong Kong. This is the product of the collaboration between Kingsway Cars and Lamborghini. The complete name of this model is the Gallardo LP550-2 Hong Kong 20th Anniversary Edition. Just eight units of this model will be built. It was commissioned specially by the official Lamborghini dealership in Hong Kong.

The 5.2-liter V10 offers the same performance at 550-hp since all the tweaks on the exterior and interior were solely aesthetic. The exterior of the HK20 Gallardo is finished in Bianco Monocerus. Its highlights include the matte gold stripes at its center. Meanwhile, there are special HK20 logos on the front spoilers and rear bumper. The exterior gets contrasting matte black rear spoilers and side skirts.

Its mirrors are slightly different with a matte white finish. It also comes with matte gold Cordelia wheels. The interior, which is mostly black, gets Q-citura stitching on black Alcantara as accent while the paddle shifters have become red. There is the gear selector at the center. It has a matte black finish with special HK20 logos, which are used on the headrests and seats as well. It is priced at about $475,000 (HK $3,680,000).

In order to guarantee exceptional performance from the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, Lamborghini made sure to implement some modifications on the engine. In particular, the brand made changes to the ten-cylinder 5.2-liter engine. This is the same engine that powers the brand’s Gallardo range, of which this new model is part of. What this engine delivers is an excellent mix of pulling power, hi-revving pleasure, and lively character.

It also offers that powerful sound no matter what gear is used. For the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, the engine is made lightweight and compact allowing it to deliver 550 hp (405 kW). Considering that the vehicle itself has a dry weight measuring 1,380 kg, outstanding performance is assured with maximum speed of 199 mph (320 km/h) and acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds.

Without question, this puts the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni at the top spot when it comes to super sports cars. However, in order to be able to deliver a combination of safety and fun, the changes were not limited to the engine. Engineers working at the Sant'Agata Bolognese headquarters managed to include some rather extensive improvements.

For example, some people would view one of the things they did as putting the transmission to its rear axle. That is not the case as the engineers made adjustments to each component involved in the driving dynamics. These include, among others, the stabilizers, dampers, springs, and tires. Since there was a change in the flow of power, the engineers also made sure to make changes to the aerodynamics.

Other changes implemented involve the rear axle differential which had a limited slip of 45%. Changed as well was how the e-gear transmission was calibrated. One important aspect with regards to the modifications was on the ESP system. While most changes put attention on high stability, the brand’s CORSA program allowed for a drift angle that was greater. As a result, customers will be sure to enjoy the full dynamics offered by the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni.
